Telangana Congress MPs to submit resignations today

breaking news about Telangana Congress MPs resignation
Seven Congress MPs from the Telangana region are coming to the national capital on Wednesday to hand over their resignations to party chief Sonia Gandhi, in protest against the delay over a Central government decision on splitting Andhra Pradesh.

The MPs had yesterday put off their decision to forward their resignation -- both from Lok Sabha and the party -- by a day as they reportedly could not iron out differences among themselves on the issue.
The MPs are slated to reach New Delhi in the afternoon and will meet Sonia Gandhi to submit the resignations.

The MPs yesterday said that they had received a call from Congress leader and Union minister Vayalar Ravi asking them to come to the national capital to discuss the Telangana issue.

"Reports that there are differences among us and also with the Ministers from Telangana are not true. Our sole aim is to secure statehood for the region and we shall go forward with our plan unitedly," MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, Gutta Sukhender Reddy and others maintained.

The MPs had announced on Monday that they would forward their resignation, along with a letter explaining the reason for it, to Gandhi on Tuesday.
But, some of the Parliamentarians were said to have disagreed with the decision as leaving the party would not serve any purpose and could even prove counter-productive.

The ministers' decision not to quit their posts now also prompted the MPs to do a re-think, party sources said

Andhra Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy condemns KCR's remarks against Sonia Gandhi, PM

Breaking news about Sonia Gandi
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy Tuesday condemned Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader K Chandrasekhara Rao's "disgraceful" remarks against Congress leaders and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Addressing a news conference Tuesday evening, he said the Congress party can't tolerate such "disgraceful remarks".
"Mind your language. Your are not such a great leader to talk against Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi or Manmohan Singh. You are a sub-regional party. Don't forget your place," he told the TRS chief.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, had allegedly made offensive remarks against the national leaders at a public meeting in Hyderabad Monday to protest the delay in formation of separate Telangana state. "It is unbecoming of a leader to make such comments. We are pained. Telugu people are hanging their head in shame. These remarks show your culture," said the chief minister who was flanked by Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and other ministers from Telangana.
Asked about the case booked against the TRS leader in Guntur, Kiran Kumar Reddy said the government had nothing to do with it and law would take its own course. The chief minister said Telangana was a sensitive issue and the central government had sought more time to find a solution but it was not proper to make such remarks over the delay.
"You can't rake up people's sentiments to make them fight on streets. The centre can't think in terms of regionalism and it has to act in a cool manner and take a decision in the interest of people," he added.
Earlier, state Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana also condemned KCR's remarks. He took objection to the language used by the TRS leader and his drawing comparison of the prime minister with a peon. Meanwhile, addressing a news conference, TRS leader E Rajender defended KCR's remarks and explained the reasons for his criticism of the Congress leaders and the prime minister.

Vishwaroopam verdict

HC asks Kamal Haasan to consider amicable settlement, order pushed till tomorrow

The Madras high court on Monday advised actor Kamal Haasan to try and settle the controversy surrounding his big ticket film,Vishwaroopam.

Justice K Venkataraman while hearing Kamal Haasan's petition against Tamil Nadu government authorities' orders of prohibiting the release of his film on January 25, said that the court had to take into account the state government's law and order concerns, communal amity in the state and also the actor's investment in the movie.

"Why don't you negotiate the matter and settle the issue amicably?" asked the judge.

Responding to the advice, Kamal's senior counsel P S Raman said, "The hero and director of the movie had returned to Chennai only this morning, and I will discuss the matter with him."

The senior counsel further said that they had filed petitions separately challenging the district collector's individual prohibitory orders restraining theatres in the respective districts from screening the film.

To this, Justice Venkataraman said that the main matter, along with the new petitions, could be heard together on Tuesday. He then adjourned the case to Tuesday for further hearing.

The latest development in this regard came after members of the Muslim organisations objected to the film on the ground that it portrays the community in bad light. They claim that the movie is anti- Muslim.

The Rs 95-crore film has been written produced and directed by Kamal Haasan. The movie stars Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Jaideep Ahlawat, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah. Kamal Haasan also plays an important role in the film.

Hyderabad simmers as Congress puts off Telangana call

The Centre on Sunday sought a "little more time" to decide on the Telangana issue, hours before the one-month deadline set by Union home ministerSushilkumar Shinde was to come to an end. While Shinde, who had indicated a decision on statehood by January 28, sought more time, Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, too, stressed on the need for further consultations with state leaders.

"On Telangana, the consultation process is on. It may take little more time to reach a final decision," Shinde said. Azad chimed in, "We need more consultations with senior leaders of Andhra Pradesh representing all the three regions". He invited these leaders, the chief minister and Andhra Congress chief to deliberate on the way forward on Telangana.

But as dilly-dallying continued, Hyderabad turned tense with pro-Telangana agitators protesting at several places. Osmania University campus, on the boil throughout the day, could present law and order problems for the police machinery. Telangana Joint Action Committee warned the government against police crackdown on agitators and demanded permission to hold protests, which was granted later in the day.

TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao called upon Congress leaders from Telangana to quit and join him. "It's very clear that the Congress is not going to respect democratic principles and honour its deadline. This tests the sincerity of Telangana Congress leaders. We urge them to quit the Congress and strengthen the Telangana movement," said Sircilla MLA K Taraka Rama Rao, son of KCR.

Incidentally, the stress on further deliberations comes even as the Congress leadership is veering towards Andhra's bifurcation, making Telangana a reality. The political dividends that would accrue from this decision, expected to help the Congress revive itself in Telangana and also tackle Jaganmohan Reddy's growing clout, have led the Congress to seriously look at the statehood option. Party president Sonia Gandhi has chaired a series of meetings to fix the solution.

The Union home ministry took stock of the law and order scenario in a string of meetings with top government officials here, besides hearing the views of various stakeholders.

A visibly upset Congress MP from Telangana region, G Vivekanand, said, "The main culprit is the CM. He misled the high command saying that there was no mass support for the demand for a separate state. Unless we overcome such elements, we cannot achieve separate statehood for Telangana."

"It's very unfortunate that the high command is allowing people like Azad to speak so irresponsibly on a sensitive issue like Telangana. But, we still trust it and hope that the Centre will lead the process for the formation of Telangana," Congress's Keshava Rao said.

Earlier in the day, a group of New Democracy leaders and Telangana advocates were arrested by the police near Indira Park. Narayanguda police arrested TRS MLA K Taraka Rama Rao near New MLA quarters when he tried to take out a rally to go towards Dharna Chowk.

Police also arrested BJP state president Kishan Reddy along with his supporters when he tried to take out a rally to Dharna Chowk from their party office in Barkatpura.

As tension built up with protests and preventive arrests, educationist and MLC Chukka Ramaiah, balladeer Gaddar and a few others met home minister Sabita Indira Reddy, requesting her to allow protests at Indira Park.

"It's unfortunate that we had to try so hard to get permission for a democratic protest. I appreciate the home minister as she understood the situation and obliged," said Gaddar.
